Sturton, Great, a village and a parish in Lincolnshire, 5 1/2 miles NNW of Horncastle station on the G.N.R. Post town, Horncastle; money order and telegraph office, Baumber. Acreage, 1588; population of the civil parish, 126; of the ecclesiastical, with Banmber, 492. The manor belongs to the Livesey family. The living is a vicarage, united with Baumber, in the diocese of Lincoln; joint gross value, £180. Patron, the Lord Chancellor. The church is an ancient building of stone, consisting of chancel, nave, S porch, and wooden bell-turret. There is a Wesleyan chapel.
