Description
Withcote, a parish in Leicestershire, on the borders of Rutland, 3 miles E from Tilton station on the G.N. and L. & N.W. Joint railway, and 5 SW from Oakham. Post town and money order and telegraph office, Oakham. Acreage, 747; population, 44. The manor, with Withcote Hall, belongs to the Palmer family, who are sole landowners. An ancient castle formerly stood within this parish, some traces of which still remain. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough; net value, £145. The church, which dates from about the middle of the 16th century, is a building of stone in the Late Perpendicular style, consisting of chancel and nave only.
