Description
Twycross, a village and a parish in Leicestershire, 5 1/4 miles NNE of Atherstone, 8 S from Ashby-de-la-Zouch, and 3 1/2 SW from Shackerstone station on the M.R. and the L. & N.W.R. There is a post, money order, and telegraph office under Atherstone. Acreage, 1581; population, 350. There is a parish council of five members and a chairman. Cliffe House is a chief residence. The manor belongs to Earl Howe, who is also chief landowner. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Peterborough; net value, £162 with residence. Patron, Earl Howe. The church, which dates from. the 14th century, is a building of stone consisting of chancel, nave, aisles, S porch, and an embattled western tower.
