Description
Rotherby, a village and a parish in Leicestershire, on the river Wreake and on the Syston and Peterborough branch of the M.R, half a mile NE of Brooksby railway station, and 5 1/2 WSW of Melton Mowbray. There is a post office under Leicester; money order office, Rearsby; telegraph office, Brooksby railway station. Acreage, 792; population, 138. The manor, with the manor house, belongs to the Goodchild family. The living is a rectory, annexed to the rectory of Hoby, in the diocese of Peterborough; joint gross value, £600 with residence. The church, which dates from the reign of King John, is an edifice of stone in the Decorated style, consisting of chancel, nave, S aisle, S porch, and an embattled tower. It was restored in 1882 at a cost of about £2000. There is an endowed school.
