Description
Wrightington, a township and an ecclesiastical parish in Eccleston parish, Lancashire, at Appley Bridge railway station, and 4 miles NW of Wigan, with a post office under Wigan; money order and telegraph office, Appley Bridge (R. S.) Acreage of township, 3916; population, 1550. The ecclesiastical parish was constituted in 1877. Population, 889. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Manchester; net value, £121 with residence. Patron, the Rector of Eccleston. The church was built in 1857, and is in the Gothic style. There are Presbyterian, Primitive Methodist, and Roman Catholic chapels, the latter adjoining Wrightington Hall.
