Description
Whitworth, a village and an ecclesiastical parish in Rochdale parish, Lancashire. The village stands 3 1/2 miles N by W of Rochdale, and has a station on the L. & Y.R., and a post, money order, and telegraph office under Rochdale. The ecclesiastical parish was formerly more extensive than now. Population, 4508. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Manchester; gross value, £310 with residence. The church was built in 1850, is Early English, and consists of chancel, nave, aisles, and western tower. There are Roman Catholic, Primitive, and Free Methodist chapels.
