Description
Warton, a township and an ecclesiastical parish in Kirkham parish, Lancashire. The township lies on the river Ribble's estuary, 3 miles SW of Kirkham railway station, and about 3 from Lytham; contains a scattered village of its own name, and has a post office under Preston; money order office, Freckleton; telegraph office, Lytham. Acreage, 2540, of which 949 are water; population, 414. The manor belongs to the Clifton family. Warton Hall is the residence of Lord Grey de Ruthyn. The ecclesiastical parish includes also Bryning-with-Kellamergh. Population, 516. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Manchester; net value, £272 with residence. Patron, Christchnrch, Oxford. The church, erected in 1885 on the site of a former one, is in the Early English style, and consists of chancel, nave, aisles, and N and S porches.
