Thurnham, a township in Lancaster and Cockerham parishes, Lancashire, 4 1/2 miles SSW of Lancaster, and 1 mile from Glasson Dock station on the L. & N.W.R. It includes the village of Glasson. Post town, Lancaster; money order and telegraph office, Glasson. Acreage, 1591 of land and 504 of water; population, 686. Much of the land belongs to the baronet family of Fitzgerald, who are lords of the manor. Thurnham Hall is an ancient mansion. There are a handsome Roman Catholic chapel and an endowed school.
