Penketh, Lancashire

Description
Penketh, a township in Prescot parish, Lancashire, on the river Mersey at Fiddler's Ferry, 3 miles WSW of Warrington. It has a station of the name of Fiddler's Ferry and Penketh on a branch of the L. & N.W.R., a post, money order, and telegraph office under Warrington, an endowed boarding-school belonging to the Society of Friends, cabinet works, and a tannery. Acreage, 1059, of which 69 are water; population, 1673. Under the Local Government Act of 1894 there is a parish council consisting of seven members. There are a church mission-room, a Wesleyan chapel, and a meetinghouse for the Society of Friends.
