Description
Charnock Richard and Welch Whittle are townships which were formed in 1861 into an ecclesiastical parish from that of Standish, Lancashire. It is adjacent to the Wigan and Preston railway, near Coppull station, 3 miles SW by W of Chorley, under which it has a post office; money order and telegraph office, Euxton and Birkacre. Acreage of township of Charnock Richard, 1946; population, 645; of the ecclesiastical parish, 758. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Manchester ; value, £300 with residence. The church was built in 1861, is in the Decorated style, and consists of nave and chancel, with embattled western tower, and has several stained glass windows.
