Frant, Kent

Description
Frant, a village in Sussex, and a parish partly in Kent. The village stands 3 miles S of Tunbridge Wells, and has a station on the S.E.R., 36 miles from London, and a post, money order, and telegraph office. The parish includes also Hawkenbury and part of Tunbridge Wells town. Acreage, 8991; population, 1660. Bayham Abbey and Eridge Castle are chief residences. (See BAYHAM and EKIDGE GKEEN). There are quarries and mineral springs, a reservoir for supplying Tunbridge Wells with water, and a public fountain to the memory of the late Prince Consort. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Chichester; value, £400 with residence. Patron, the Marquis of Abergaveuny. The church is good, and was restored in 1880. The vicarage of Eridge Green and the perpetual curacy of Broadwater are separate charges. Shemfold Park and Frant Court are chief residences.
