Thorley, a parish in Herts, on the Essex border of the county, 2 miles SSW of Bishop Stortford station on the G.E.R. It has a post office under Bishop Stortford; money order and telegraph office, Bishop Stortford. Acreage, 1536; population, 546. There is a parish council consisting of six members. The manor belongs to Lord Ellenborough. Twyford House is a chief residence. The living is a rectory in the diocese of St Albans; net value, £340, in the gift of the Bishop of St Albans. The church is a small edifice of stone in the Norman and Early English styles.
