Description
Deane, a parish in Hants, near Oakley station on the L. & S.W.R., and 5 1/2 miles W by S of Basingstoke. Post town, either Whitchurch, Hants, or Micheldever; money order office, Overton; telegraph office, Oakley railway station. Acreage, 1586; population, 121. The manor was bought by the famous bishop, William Wickham, and passed to the Parrotts, the Fieneses, the Deanes, and the Harwoods, and now belongs to the Beach family. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Winchester; value, £220 with residence. The church was rebuilt in 1818. It is a Gothic structure with a lofty square tower, and contains a three-arched stone screen, and several mural monuments.
