Description
Weston Birt, a village and a parish in Gloucestershire. The village is 3 1/2 miles SW by S of Tetbury, and 5 W by N of Malmesbury. It has a post office under Tetbury; money order office, Tetbury; telegraph office, Easton Grey. The parish includes Lasborough. Acreage, 1904; population, 258. The manor has been in the possession of the Holford family since the time of Charles II. Weston Birt House is a fine mansion rebuilt in the Italian style by Vulliamy, and standing in beautiful gardens and park. The living is a rectory, united with Lasborough, in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol; net value, £334 with residence. The church is Early English, was restored and enlarged in 1841, and restored again in 1879. It stands in a shrubbery in the gardens of the manor house, and contains a good monument by Westmacott to various members of the Holford family.
