Shirehampton, a village, a tithing, and an ecclesiastical parish in Westbury-on-Trym parish, Gloucestershire. The village stands on the river Avon, 5 miles NW by W of Bristol. It has a station on the Bristol Port and Pier railway, and a post, money order, and telegraph office under Bristol. It has become a holiday resort on account of its sheltered and picturesque situation. The tithing comprises 1364 acres of land and 367 of water (including 295 of foreshore); population, 2682. There is a parish council consisting of eleven members and a chairman. The ecclesiastical parish was constituted in 1844. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol; net value. £188 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of the diocese. The church is cruciform. There are Wesleyan and Congregational chapels. Avonmouth, a seaport with large docks belonging to the corporation of Bristol, is situated in the parish. St Andrew's church, a chapel of ease to Shirehampton, was consecrated in 1893.

Avonmouth, a seaport in the parish of Shirehampton, Gloucestershire, at the mouth of the river Avon, 6 1/2 miles NW by W of Bristol. There is an excellent dock, 1400 feet long and 500 feet wide, and two stations, Avonmouth and Avonmouth Dock, in connection with the G.W.R. and the M.R. There is a church, and a post office under Bristol.
