Ruardean, Gloucestershire

Ruardean, a village and a parish in Gloucestershire, 2 1/2 miles SE of Kerne Bridge station on the G.W.R., and 6 S of Boss. There is a post and money order office under Mitcheldean (R.S.O.); telegraph office, Drybrook. Acreage, 1630; population of the civil parish, 1284; of the ecclesiastical, 1028. There are ruins of an ancient castle. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol; net value, £150 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of Gloucester and Bristol. The church is partly Norman, and has a tower and handsome spire. It was restored in 1891. There are Congregational and Bible Christian chapels, and a parish council of nine members.
