Description
Iveston, a village and a township in Leadgate ecclesiastical parish, Durham, 9 miles NW of Durham, and about 1 mile from Consett station on the N.E.R., containing the hamlets of Crook Hall and High Brooms. Post, money order, and telegraph office, Leadgate (B.S.O.) Acreage, 1781; population, 4188. The manor belonged anciently to Kepier Hospital, and now belongs to Sir H. A. Clavering, Bart. There are Wesleyan and Roman Catholic chapels, and coal mines and an iron and brass foundry.
