Description
Ford, a township in the ecclesiastical parish of South Hylton, Durham. The township lies on the river Wear, at Hylton ferry, 1 1/2 mile from Hylton railway station, and 3 miles W of Sunderland. Post town, Hylton, under Sunderland. Acreage, 1029 ; population, 2737. Ford Hall was the birthplace of Major-General Sir Henry Havelock, K.C.B. The township is conterminate with the parish.
