Description
Stanton St Gabriel, a parish in Dorsetshire, on the coast, 4 miles W by S of Bridport station on the G.W.R. Post town, Charmouth. Acreage, 1070; population, 48. The living is a perpetual curacy annexed to Whitechurch Canonicorum. The church was built in 1841, near the high road, in lieu of a small chapel inconveniently situated near the seashore.
Parish Church
The church of St. Gabriel, erected in 1841, 1 1/2 miles inland, is a plain building of stone, consisting of chancel, nave, wets porch and a western turret containing one bell: the rood screen and Norman font were transferred from the old church. The old church, now a picturesque ruin, stands near the sea coast.
The register dates from the year 1825.
