Description
Oborne, a parish in Dorsetshire, adjacent to Somerset, If mile ENE of Sherborne station on the L. & S.W.R. It has a post office under Sherborne; money order and telegraph office, Sherborne. Acreage, 607; population, 130. The manor belongs to Caius College, Cambridge. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Salisbury; net value, £90 with residence. The church was rebuilt in 1862, and is in the Early English style
Parish Church
The church of St. Cuthbert, rebuilt on a new site in 1862 in the Early English style, is of stone, consisting of chancel, nave, south porch, and a small embattled western turret containing one bell: in the chancel are three fine stained windows: there are sittings for 129 persons. The chancel of the old church is still standing: in 1914 the churchyard adjoining the old church was closed.
The register dates from the year 1567.
