Hinton Parva, Dorset

Description
Hinton Parva or Stanbridge, a parish in Dorsetshire, on the river Allon, 2 1/2 miles N of Wimborne town and station on the L. & S.W.E. Post town, Wimborne; money order and telegraph office, Witchampton. Acreage, 472; population, 70. The property is supposed to have belonged to John of Gaunt, and belongs now to the Glyn family. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Salisbury; value, £80 with residence. The church has Norman traces, and is very good.

Parish Church
The church of St. Kenelm, supposed to have been anciently a chapel belonging to Wimborne Minster, is a building of stone in the Norman and Early English styles, and consists of chancel, nave, small transepts, south porch and a tower containing 4 bells: it was repaired in 1860, and in 1897 stained windows were put in the chancel and a new font and lectern and a chalice presented by Sir R. G. Glyn bart. in commemoration of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee: there are 180 sittings.

The register dates from the year 1621.
