Description
Withycombe Raleigh, a village and a parish in Devonshire. The village stands 1 1/2 mile NE of Exmouth station on the L. & S.W.R., and has a post office under Exmouth; money order and telegraph office, Exmouth. The parish includes Hulham hamlet and part of Exmouth town. Acreage, 2235 of land and 496 of foreshore; population of the civil parish, 3832; of the ecclesiastical, 3780. There are many fine residences. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Exeter; net value, £175 with residence. The church was rebuilt in 1748, and a new church, in the Decorated English style and cruciform, was built in 1864 at a cost of £6000. There are Wesleyan and Methodist chapels, and four almshouses.
