Description
Jacobstowe, a parish, with a village, in Devonshire, on the river Okement, 3 1/2 miles SE of Hatherleigh, and 5 1/2 N of Okehampton station on the L. & S.W.R. Post town and money order office, Exbourne; telegraph office, Hatherleigh. Acreage, 2893; population, 222. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Exeter; net value, £180 with residence. The church is ancient but good; consists of nave and chancel, with a tower; and contains a monument to the Maddens. In the churchyard is a fine avenue of sycamore trees.
