Description
Clyst-St George, a parish in Devonshire, on the river Clyst, 2 miles E by N of Topsham station on the L. & S.W.R., and 4 SE of Exeter. It has a post and money order office under Exeter ; telegraph office, Topsham. Acreage, 1040 ; population, 291. The manor belonged formerly to the Champernownes. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Exeter; value, £244 with residence and glebe of 6 acres. The church consists of nave, chancel, and north aisle, with western tower; has sedilia, a piscina, and stained glass windows; and was restored in 1851, and further improved in 1888. A school, founded in 1705 by Lady Seaward, has a small endowment.
