Tibshelf, a village and a parish in Derbyshire, with two stations on the M.R., 4 miles NE of Alfreton. Tiere is a post, money order, and telegraph office under Alfreton. Acreage, 2371; population, 2679. There is a parish council consisting of eight members. The manor belongs to St Thomas' Hospital, London. There are two collieries, which employ a large number of hands. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Southwell; net value, £340 with residence. The church is Early English, with chancel, nave, N aisle, and embattled western tower with pinnacles. The nave and tower were rebuilt in 1887. There are Primitive and Free Methodist and Wesleyan chapels, and a colliery club with a cricket ground attached. The extension of the M.S. & L.R. runs through this parish and has a station.
