Description

Bude or Bude Haven, a small seaport on the N coast of Cornwall, 9 miles from Holsworthy station on the L.& N.W.R., 26 from Bideford, and 20 from Launceston. It has a post, money order, and telegraph office (R.S.O.), a hotel, and a large number of lodging-houses. It possesses an exceptionally favoured climate, being warm, but not relaxing, and has good sea-bathing, and excellent golf links. The scenery is grand. Bude formerly did a considerable trade in sea sand, but this has much diminished of late years. It is, however, steadily growing in popularity as a health and holiday resort. A fair is held on 26 Sept. Population, 1054. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Truro ; value, £175 with residence. The church is modern, built when the parish was constituted in 1836.
