Description
Eddisbury, a township in Delamere parish and forest, Cheshire, 7 1/2 miles SW of Northwich. Acreage, 2085; population, 279. It was known to the Saxons as Eadersbyrig, and it gives the title of Baron to the Stanleys of Alderley. Eddisbury Hill has traces of an ancient fortification, said to have been erected by Ethelfleda, daughter of Alfred the Great.
Eddisbury Parliamentary Division of Cheshire was formed under the Redistribution of Seats Act of 1885, and returns one member to the House of Commons. Population, 55,249.
