Description
Disley,/b> or Disley-Stanley, a village, a township, and an ecclesiastical parish in Stockport parish, Cheshire, adjacent to the Peak Forest Canal, at the boundary with Derbyshire, 6 miles SE of Stockport, with a station on the Stockport and Buxton section of the L. & N.W.R., and a post, money order, and telegraph office under Stockport. Acreage, 2591; population, 3423. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Chester; net value, £120. Patron, Lord Newton. The church dates from the 15th century, and was restored in 1870 and 1882 ; it contains some good stained glass from Nuremberg, a monument to one of the Legh family, and an ancient brass. Lyme Park, the seat of Lord Newton, is the chief residence.
