Chelford, Cheshire

Description
Chelford, a village, a township, and a chapelry in Prestbury parish, Cheshire. The township lies on the river Peover Eye, 5 miles ESE of Knutsford. It has a station on the L. &N.W.R., and a post, money order, and telegraph office under Crewe. Acreage of the township, 1182 ; population, 342; of the ecclesiastical district, 607. The chapelry was constituted in 1880, and includes the township of Old Withington and part of that of Snelson and the hamlet of Astle. Astle Hall is the seat of the lord of the manor. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Chester; net value, £280 with residence. The church was erected in 1776, on the site of an ancient church.
