Over, a village and a parish in Cambridgeshire. The village stands 1 mile E of the river Ouse at the boundary with Hunts, 1 NNE of Swavesey station on the St Ives and Cambridge section of the G.E.R., and 4 1/4 miles E by S of St Ives, and has a post, money order, and telegraph office under St Ives. The parish comprises 3717 acres of land and 20 of water; population, 1005. The principal manor belongs to the Foster family, and a smaller one to Merton College, Oxford. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Ely; gross value, £180 with residence. Patron, Trinity College, Cambridge. The church is an ancient and handsome building of stone, chiefly in the Decorated style, consisting of chancel, nave, aisles, S porch, and a western tower surmounted by a lofty octagonal spire. The western door has a carving of the " Virgin clothed with the sun." The body of the church has cndergone considerable repair; the N aisle was rebuilt in 1847; and the tower and spire were renovated at a cost of £600 in 1864, a clock and chimes being added in 1882. There are Baptist and Primitive Methodist chapels. The town lands yield about £300 a year, and there are some small charities. The parish council has eleven members.
