Description
Fisherton-de-la-Mere, a parish in Wiltshire, on the river Wylye, near Wylye station on the G.W.R., 8 1/4 miles NW by W of Wilton. It includes Bapton hamlet, and its post town is Wylye, under Bath. Acreage, 2834; population,, 291. The manor belonged to the De la Meres of Nun-ney Castle in Somerset, and Fisherton House is thought to., occupy the site of their mansion. Bapton Manor is noted for a fine breed of shorthorns. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Salisbury; gross value, £142 with residence. The church was mainly rebuilt in 1833, and has a tower.
