Description
Felton, West, a township and a parish in Salop. The township lies on the river Perry, near the Shropshire Union Canal, 2 miles E of Rednal station on the G.W.R., and 5 SE of Oswestry, and has a post, money order and telegraph office under Oswestry. The parish includes also the townships of Haughton, Rednal, Sandford, Sutton, Tedsmore, Twyford.and Woolston. Acreage, 6108 ; population, 1080. West Felton Grange, Tedsmore Hall, Woodhouse, and the Nursery are chief residences. St Winifred's Well, in Woolston township, was formerly in high repute. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Lichfield; net value, £700 with residence. The church is ancient, and was restored in 1879. There is a chapel of ease in Haughton township, and also a Primitive Methodist chapel; there is a Congregational chapel at Grimpo in Sutton township.
