Description
Eaton or Eaton-under-Haywood, a parish in Salop, on Stradbroke river, under Weulock Edge, 1 mile SE of Harton Road station on the G.W.R., and 4 1/4 miles SE by E of Church Stretton. It contains Hatton, Ticklerton, Upper Millichope, and part of Hungerford, and for ecclesiastical purposes, Eastwall, Lushcott, and part of Longville-in-the-dale. Post town, Church Stretton. Acreage, 4885; population of the civil parish, 391; of the ecclesiastical, 471. Stradbroke river is an affluent of the Onny. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Hereford; value, £294. The church is ancient, and was restored in 1868; it contains an ancient stone credence table, aumbry, and font, as well as some ancient monuments.
