Description
Chetwynd, a village and a parish in Salop, on the verge of the county and on the river Mees, 1 1/4 mile N by W of Newport. The parish includes the townships of Howie, part of Sambrook, and part of Pickstock, and the hamlet of Pilson. Its post town is Newport, Salop. Acreage, 4980; population, 974. Chetwynd Park is the seat of the lord of the manor. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Lichfield; net value, £450 with residence. The church was rebuilt in 1867. The vicarage of Sambrook is a separate benefice.
