Description
Holland Fen, an ecclesiastical parish, formed in 1865 from the civil parishes of Amberhill and Kirton in the Boston union, 4 miles from Langrick station on the G.N.K., and 9 NW from Boston, Lincoln. It includes also the fen portions of the parishes of Fosdyke, Algarkirk, and Sntterton, and has a post office under Lincoln; money order office, Coningsby; telegraph office, Langrick station. The church of Holland Fen was erected in 1812 by Act of Parliament as a chapel of ease to Fosdyke. It stands close to the North Forty-Foot Drain, and is a building of brick in the Perpendicular style, consisting of chancel and nave only. The church in Algarkirk Fen, completed in 1867, is a building of red brick, consisting of chancel, nave, and S porch, with .a western bell-cope. The living is a vicarage, annexed to that of Holland Fen, in the diocese of Lincoln; value, about C210.
