Sopley, a parish, with Sopley village and Avon, Ripley, and Shirley tithings, in Hants, on the river Avon, 3 miles N of Christchurch station on the L. & S.W.R. It has a post and money order office under Ringwood; telegraph office, Christchurch. Acreage, 4779; population of the civil parish, 833; of the ecclesiastical, 828. There is a parish council consisting of five members. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Winchester; net value, £280 with residence. The church is cruciform and mostly Early English, and has been well restored.
