Description
Soberton, a village and a parish in Hants. The village stands 4 miles E by S of Bishops Waltham station on the L. & S.W.R. It has a post office under Bishops Waltham; money order and telegraph office, Droxford. The parish contains also the hamlets of Kingsmead, Newtown, and Southend, the liberty of Wickham Lodge, and the tithing of East Hoe. Acreage, 5885; population of the civil parish, 1185; of the ecclesiastical, 1050. There is a parish council consisting of eleven members. The living is a perpetual curacy,. annexed to Meon Stoke. The church is Early English, part of its earliest work dating about 1120. It has a tower with eight bells. There is a Free Methodist chapel.
