Stoneham, North, a parish, with five hamlets, in Hants, 2 miles from Eastleigh, and 1 1/2 mile from Swathling stations on the L. & S.W.R., and 4 1/2 miles N by E of Southampton. It has a post office under Southampton; money order and telegraph office, Eastleigh. Acreage, 5056; population, 1569. There is a parish council consisting of eight members. North Stoneham Park is the chief residence. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Winchester; net value, £480 with residence. The church is of the 14th and 15th centuries, and contains the remains of the celebrated Lord Hawke, vice-admiral of Great Britain, to whose memory there is a handsome monument, and also of the Lord Chief-justice Fleming, who died in 1613, and whose full-length figure in robes of office, with Lady Fleming and, their children below, reclines in the S aisle. The church was restored in 1889. Canon Liddon, D.D., was born in this parish.
