Herriard, a parish in Hants, 4 1/4 miles SSE of Basing-stoke station on the G.W.R., with a post office under Bas-ingstoke; money order office, Basingstoke, telegraph office, Upton Grey. It contains the tithing of Southrope. Acreage, 2978; population, 367. The manor, with Herriard House, belongs to the Jervoise family. Herriard House was built in the time of Queen Anne, is an elegant mansion, and stands in a picturesque park about 7 miles in circuit. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Winchester; net value, £125 with residence. The church is ancient and was thoroughly restored in 1877.
