Shillingstone, Dorset

Description
Shillingstone or Shilling Okeford, a village and a parish in Dorsetshire. The village stands on an eminence adjacent to the river Stour, with a station on the Somerset and Dorset railway, 123 miles from London, and 5 1/2 NW of Blandford. It has a post, money order, and telegraph office under Blandford. Acreage of parish, 2272; population, 546. The parish council consists of seven members. The manor belongs to Viscount Portman. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Salisbury; net value, £380 with residence. The church was restored and enlarged in 1889. There is a Wesleyan chapel. The remains of an ancient cross stand in the village.
