Newton, West, a village, a township, and an ecclesiastical parish in Bromfield parish, Cumberland. The village stands 2 miles N by W of Aspatria railway station, and 3 ENE of Allonby. It lias a post office under Carlisle; money order and telegraph office, Aspatria. The township includes also Allouby, and bears the name of West Newton and Allonby. Acreage, 3742 of land and 422 of water; population, 853. The ecclesiastical parish includes only part of the township, yet extends beyond it, and was constituted in 1860. Population, 411. The manor belongs to the Jolliffe family. Bed freestone is quarried. The living is a vicarage in The diocese of Carlisle; gross value; £208 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of Carlisle. The church was built in 1856, and is a stone edifice in The Early English style, with several stained glass windows.
