Rosley, a village and an ecclesiastical parish in Westward parish, Cumberland. The village lies 5 miles ESE of Wigton, and 3 from Curthwaite station on the Maryport and Carlisle railway, and has a stock fair on Whit-Monday and on two alternate Mondays following. Post town and money order and telegraph office, Dalston. Lord Leconfield is lord of the manor. The ecclesiastical parish includes Woodside township, and was constituted in 1868. Population, 604. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Carlisle; gross joint value, £300 with residence. Patrons, the Dean and Chapter of Carlisle. The church was built in 1840 and decorated in 1890. A burial-ground was opened in 1889.
