Description
Juliot, St, a parish in Cornwall, on the coast, 7 1/2 miles N by E of Camelford, and 3 from Otterham station on the L. & S.W.R. Post town, Boscastle. Area, 2711 acres; population, 233. A Benedictine or Cluniac priory, a cell to Montacute in Somerset, was here as early as the time of Richard I., and went at the dissolution to Laurence Courtney. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Truro; value, £100 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of Truro. The church is a fine ancient structure, consists of nave, chancel, and N aisle, with S porch and W tower, was for years in very bad condition, but was thoroughly restored in 1872. Many years ago, in draining a marsh, an ancient gold torque was discovered at a depth of 6 feet.
