Description

Laneast, a parish in Cornwall, on the river Inny, 7 1/2 miles W of Launceston, the nearest station being at Egloskerry on the L. & S.W.R. It contains Tregeare, which has a post office under Egloskerry; money order and telegraph office, Egloskerry (K.S.O.) Acreage, 2552; population, 227. The manor formerly belonged to Launeeston Priory. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Truro; value, £120 with residence. The church is ancient but good, has a lofty tower, and contains open oak seats and a carved screen. There is a Wesleyan chapel. The astronomer Adams, who discovered the planet Neptune, was a native.
